Cécile is in hospital again. Unplanned. Last night her temperature went up to 38.8° and in her condition this means she has to be seen by a doctor. So at half past midnight we set off for A&E at Sud Francilien. The nurse came to take a blood sample ... and once again there was a problem with the valve - she was unable to get any blood from the catheter. She went to get help and it turned out the valve used by the home nurse was not the same type as the ones in hospital ... The sample was taken and about 4.30 am we had the results: Cécile had only 67 infection-fighting white blood cells (it's considered low when the number is under 500 ...) and a very low hemoglobin count which means the likelihood of a blood transfusion today. She's obviously not happy about this - she was looking forward to another easy week or so before the last stage. Lessons have had to be cancelled again and Cécile is once again on antibiotics while her blood count improves.
It's the second time we've had a problem with the valve in one week. When she went to Sud Francilien for her check up last Monday, the nurse was unable to remove the valve which had been put on by the staff in Debré. As the SF hospital doesn't have the necessary 'repair kits', the nurse couldn't run the risk of forcing the valve in case it broke. So an appointment was made to spend the day in Debré last Thursday so the valve could be changed. Luckily, when Cécile went for her heart scan on Wednesday the doctor decided to have another go at removing the valve - and this time the nurse was successful. This was a relief - one trip to Debré avoided ...
We're waiting now to hear if the chemo planned for today can go ahead or if Cécile must wait until her blood count is better. Another few days delay ...
Cécile est à nouveau hospitalisée à Corbeil. Hier soir elle avait de la fièvre: 38,8° - au delà de 38,5° elle doit être auscultée par un médecin. On a quitté la maison à minuit trente. L'infirmière est venue faire une prise de sang et encore une fois il y avait un problème avec la valve - le sang ne venait pas. Une autre infirmière est venue et finalement elles ont réussi à faire le bilan. Apparemment la valve mise en place par l'infirmière à domicile n'est pas la même que celle utilisée par l'hôpital ... A 4h30 on a eu les résultats: seulement 67 PNN et un taux de hémoglobine qui va surement nécessiter une transfusion. Pauvre Cécile n'est pas très heureuse - elle avait envie d'avancer un peu avec ses cours avant la dernière phase ... Elle est à nouveau sous antibiotiques en attendant de meilleurs résultats.
C'est la deuxième fois en une semaine que Cécile a un problème de valve. Lundi dernier l'infirmière à Sud Francilien n'arrivait pas à enlever la valve mise en place par l'équipe à Debré. Elle n'osait pas trop forcer car ils n'ont pas les kits nécessaires en cas de besoin. Un rendez-vous a été pris pour aller à Debré jeudi pour l'enlever / la remplacer. Et puis lors d'une visite pour une échographie du coeur mercredi, le médecin a décidé d'essayer d'enlever la valve. Cette fois-ci l'infirmière a réussi. Ouf! Un déplacement à Debré évité!
On attend maintenant pour savoir si la chimio prévue pour aujourd'hui pourra avoir lieu ou si Cécile doit attendre que son bilan s'améliore avant de poursuivre le traitement ...
