First week of intensification 2

The first week of intensification 2 is almost over. It didn't start too well because Cécile was really not looking forward to the prospect of hospital every other day. The days are long and this strong chemo requires her blood pressure to be taken every ten minutes and a rather annoying probe on one of her fingers for the duration of the chemo and surveillance time. The chemo Cécile is having over these 2 and a half weeks can cause serious allergic reactions during the chemo or the hour which follows and the likelihood of a reaction happening increases the more chemo she has. Also, the chemo can't start until the blood test results are back as it can cause problems with coagulation so there's a lot of waiting around.

To help while away the hours Cécile has added another television series to her favourites: along with Friends and The Big Bang Theory she is now watching The Vampire Diaries - a far cry from Shakespeare and Jane Austen but hey, whatever it takes!

On the two days off, Tuesday and Thursday, Cécile had some classes and physio sessions. The corticosteroids are starting to make her feel very hungry and fairly irritable. This is all made worse by not being able to eat what she wants to. One week down, two more to go ...

She's had a fairly steady weekend - a walk in the sunshine with the dogs on Saturday, a trip to the cinema with her big brother and a catching-up session with her best friend.

On arrive à la fin de la première semaine de l'intensification 2. La semaine a mal commencé car Cécile appréhendait énormément cette phase avec un jour sur deux à l'hôpital. Les journées sont longues: la chimio a beaucoup d'effets secondaires possibles et il faut attendre les résultats du bilan chaque jour avant de pouvoir commencer. Le laboratoire doit être débordé car on attend parfois jusqu'à midi avant que le traitement puisse démarrer. Il y a un risque de thrombose si certains paramètres sont déréglés et aussi la possibilité de faire de graves réactions allergiques. Ce risque nécessite une surveillance particulière pendant la chimio et une heure après avec la prise de la tension toutes les dix minutes et une sonde sur un doigt.

Afin de faire passer le temps Cécile a ajouté une autre série télévisée à ses favorites: en plus de Friends et The Big Bang Theory elle regarde maintenant The Vampire Diaries - pas tout à fait le même style que Shakespeare ou Jane Austen mais très distrayant!

Les deux jours sans hôpital étaient consacrés à des heures de cours et des séances de kiné. Les corticoïdes commencent à lui donner la sensation d'avoir faim tout le temps et la rendent un peu irritable. Tout ceci est aggravé par ses restrictions alimentaires - plus que deux semaines à tenir ...

Cécile a passé un week-end tranquille - une balade au soleil avec les chiens, une séance de cinéma avec son grand frère et une séance de bavardage avec sa meilleure amie!
