Interphase

Cécile has started the next stage of her protocol, the interphase. She was able to go to Debré last Monday to start the treatment. She's already had this treatment twice before in September so she knows the ropes: the pH was quickly at a good level so the chemo started mid-afternoon. On Tuesday Cécile had a lumbar puncture and then Wednesday and Thursday she had to wait for all the excess chemo to be evacuated through her urine. For the first time, Cécile was sharing a room. There are disadvantages - the little 2 and a half year old, Célia, was quite agitated at night times so Cécile didn't sleep too well. But the advantages are that the time seems to go by quicker. The little girl was quite a chatterbox and her mother was with her all the time (another Cécile!) so there was always someone to talk to and also lots of activity with the nurses coming in and out to see the two patients. Whether this was the reason or not, Cécile didn't complain at all and seemed quite cheerful most of the time. She was of course pleased to come home on Thursday evening when she was given the all-clear!

For the next three weeks Cécile will be taking oral chemo apart from just one product in the catheter in two weeks' time. She will still be going to Sud-Francilien for a weekly check up but the visits will be shorter than the ones she's been having over the past eight weeks.

All in all things are looking brighter for the festive period. Cécile returns to Debré for her last four-day cure on the 5th January if the blood count is OK so she will be free to see a few friends over the holidays and make the most of her Christmas lunch - hopefully we will be able to keep the nausea at bay! She loves Christmas and it will be nice to spend it together - and there are already a few presents under the tree!

L'interphase, la suite du protocole, a démarré lundi dernier. Cécile a passé quatre jours à Debré avec un traitement qu'elle a déjà eu deux fois au mois de septembre. Le pH des urines était rapidement au bon niveau et la chimio a commencé au milieu de l'après-midi. Le lendemain Cécile a eu la ponction lombaire et mercredi et jeudi il fallait attendre que le produit soit éliminé avant de pouvoir sortir. Pour la première fois Cécile a partagé sa chambre: avec une petite Célia de deux ans et demi, accompagnée de sa maman qui s'appelait Cécile! Leur présence a probablement aidé à ce que le temps paraisse moins long - Cécile se plaignait moins et était plutôt de bonne humeur. Il faut dire que la petite Célia est une vraie pipelette et posait des questions tout le temps! Ca aide à faire passer le temps ... Aussi le va et vient des infirmières pour les soins de deux patientes - ceci dit, dans d'autres circonstances ça pourrait être un peu pénible mais cette semaine c'était plutôt un point positif. Cécile était tout de même contente de rentrer à la maison jeudi soir!

Les trois semaines à venir Cécile aura une seule fois de la chimio par le cathéter; le reste du temps elle prendra sa chimio par voie orale. Elle ira quand même une fois par semaine au Sud Francilien mais les visites seront moins longues que celles des dernières semaines.

Tout compte fait la période des fêtes s'annonce plutôt bien. Cécile retourne à Debré le cinq janvier si les bilans sont satisfaisants; elle aura le temps d'inviter quelques amies pendant les vacances. En espérant qu'elle arrive à contrôler les nausées elle pourra également bien profiter de son repas de Noël! Elle aime les fêtes et apprécie l'idée de passer du temps à la maison en famille. Sans parler des cadeaux qui commencent à arriver sous le sapin!
