Last week Cécile was in hospital for four days - she seemed to accept it better this time even though when she said it wasn't so bad she was under the influence of morphine just before a lumbar puncture - she likes the feeling it gives her! She managed to work her way through several series of The Big Bang Theory, bought specially to help her cope with hospital. She also managed to eat meals this time as we took frozen meals for her lunch and dinner so she didn't have to eat hospital food. We had the usual visits from clowns and this time she had a maths lesson, a history lesson and a guy playing the guitar! Despite the distractions she was still happy to come home on Thursday evening.
Unfortunately one of the products she has been taking has caused some muscle damage to her right foot. She has stopped taking that particular product for the moment and is now having physio at home to help exercise the muscles. One more set of appointments to fit in!
On Friday she complained of a sore foot (the other one) and on closer inspection we could see her toe was infected. This of course is the sort of complication we need to avoid so the next day Cécile was back in hospital to have things checked out: a swab was taken and another blood test ... She's getting pretty low on defences so it needs disinfecting several times a day.
Tuesday was a very busy day: a French lesson, a maths lesson and physio! The teachers were very pleased with what she's been able to do on her own - they were impressed with what she managed to take in in one hour, expecially considering she's pretty anaemic at the moment. It seems a very pleasant way to study - there was a lot of laughing going on!
Wednesday she had a check-up and blood test in hospital. Her blood count is on the way up again - she did go pretty low this time but still not down to crucial levels where she has no defences. That's very reassuring. She will be starting the next stage of the protocol on the 29th - as long as the blood count is still on the rise and her foot is OK. Today she's had a history lesson - she loved it! and tomorrow the Spanish teacher is coming.
Cela fait trois mois que les médecins ont diagnostiqué la leucémie de Cécile. On est très fier de ses progrès. Bien sûr, il y a des hauts et des bas et parfois elle n'en peut plus, elle en a assez et veut être une fille comme les autres. Mais derrière ses apparences douces et gentilles, c'est une battante et les résultats le prouvent. Les deux myélogrammes faits début août et début septembre montrent qu'il n'y a aucun blast visible dans 100 000 cellules normales. C'est une excellente nouvelle, même si cela ne lui permet de sauter des étapes.
La semaine dernière Cécile a passé quatre jours à l'hôpital. Elle a mieux accepté l'hôspitalisation cette fois - même si au moment où elle disait que tout allait bien elle était sous l'influence de la morphine avant sa ponction lombaire! Elle a réussi à regarder plusieurs séries de The Big Bang Theory, petit cadeau pour l'aider à faire passer le temps. Elle a mieux manger aussi car on lui a apporté des plats surgelés pour le midi et le soir. En dehors des visites habituelles des clowns elle a aussi eu un cours de maths, un cours d'histoire et la visite d'un chanteur avec sa guitare! Malgré ces divertissements elle était heureuse de rentrer à la maison jeudi soir.
Malheureusement un des produits a provoqué des petits soucis musculaires au pied droit. Le produit a été mis en attente et elle doit suivre des séances de kiné - encore des rendez-vous à placer dans son emploi du temps!
Vendredi soir Cécile s'est plainte d'un problème au pied (gauche) et on a vu un début d'infection, à éviter bien sûr pour quelqu'un qui n'a pas beaucoup de globules blancs. Du coup, Cécile a dû retourner à l'hôpital samedi matin pour un bilan sanguin et un prélèvement au pied. Il faut bien désinfecter pour éviter des complications.
Mardi elle était très occupée. Un cours de français, un cours de maths et une séance de kiné! Les profs étaient très satisfaits avec tout ce qu'elle a fait toute seule et ne s'inquiètent pas du tout pour la suite. Ça avait l'air plutôt agréable comme cours - une ambiance très détendue!
Mercredi elle était à l'hôpital pour un bilan et une consultation avec le médecin. Son bilan sanguin s'améliore - les taux étaient descendus assez bas cette fois-ci mais ça commence à monter et elle ne s'est pas trouvée en aplasie profonde, ce qui est rassurant. Si le bilan reste sur cette bonne voie elle commencera la suite du protocol lundi 29.
Aujourd'hui elle a eu un cours d'histoire - elle a adoré! Demain c'est au tour de la prof d'espagnol. Cécile commence à se plaindre de tous les devoirs qu'elle doit faire ...
3 months has gone by already! You've been through so much with still a long journey ahead of you. It must be so horribly, horribly tough at times - but soon another 3 months and another 3 months and another 3 months will have gone by and so on... It certainly sounds like everyone's keeping you busy Cécile - not a moment's rest with all this school work, huh?!;-) Hope to see you in October - I'm trying to keep the gang here germ-free:-) Lots of love xxxxxxxxxxxx
